Latin American Studies Links
UTlanic, maintained by the University of Texas at Austin, which has one of the premier Latin American Studies programs in the nation, is probably the best place to go on the web as a starting point to find information about Latin American issues.
Latinamericalinks, is complied by Crowder Publishers and is a fantastic collection of links, organized first by country and then by topic, about the countries of Latin America. The are links to government agencies, website that focus on history and culture, and news sites. Some of the links are in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
upsidedownworld.org an online magazine covering politics and activism in Latin America. Very nicely done.
Sources on Latin America A very well organized and comprehensive collection of links to sources on Latin America prepared by Professor Steven Volk at Oberlin College. A good place for general browsing.
Research Sites for Latin American History Professor Richard Slatta of NC State was one of the first Latin Americanists to have a strong presence on the web. Here is his links page; there is a lot here.
Internet Resources for Latin America is a very fine guide to Latin American resources on the web maintained at New Mexico State University.
OAS Organization of American States. This is a good place to look for information on current events and diplomacy in Latin America.
Summit of the Americas Center at Florida International University. This is an informative site; a good place to get oriented about regional organizations, trade in the Americas, and governance.
Latin American Music Links This is a substantial list, prepared by the Latin American Music Center at the Indiana University School of Music, of links to websites on the music of Latin America. There are links to period music, performers and composers, and genres.
Putamayo World Music has a very informative site about their large catalogue of world music CDs. There are many CDs of Latin American music; each CD listing has an ample description of the music genre, detailed descriptions of the tracks on the CD, and short audio samples of the tracks on the CD.
Mesoweb This site bills itself as "an exploration of mesoamerican cultures." It is a pretty good resource for research on the Olmec and Maya. Lots of images!
Mesoaermican Photo Archive A nice collection of images, with descriptions, of about twelve Maya sites, including Ek Balam, Bonampak, and others.
The Conquistadors Companion website for the PBS series on the conquest of the New World.
Brazilian Embassy The Brazilian Embassy in Washington, D.C. is a good place to start for general information about Brazil. It seems to be their mission not only to inform about Brazil and current events, but about Brazil and Brazilians in general, with sections on history, culture, economy, etc.
The Cuban Experience This is a Thinkquest project prepared by several students. It is an outstanding site on all aspects of Cuban society and culture.
Webster University's Professor Bob Corbett maintains a Haiti Website that is really a model for website's wishing to be thorough on their topic. This is the best place to begin a research project on topics Haitian!
