History of Ancient Philosophy This is an excellent website--you might see the lecture notes if you are unclear about anything from the pre-socratics to Aristotle.

FOR NOW, JUST IGNORE THE INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE BELOW THIS POINT. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING THE INFO TO ANOTHER PAGE FOR LATER IN THE CLASS. I JUST CAN'T DELETE IT FROM HERE UNTIL I AM FINISHED WITH THAT PROCESS.

Semester Two, Week One (Jan 8): Readings about Kierkegaard: http://sorenkierkegaard.org/primer.htm (read especially the primer)

Hegel outline: http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/

Hegel and Marx on Science: http://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/smith-cyril/works/millenni/smith4.htm

Hegel and Marx in Fight Club: http://thereitis.org/mod-ContentExpress-print-ceid-10.html

Also see some interesting visual presentations of Hegel and Marx: http://www.kheper.net/topics/philosophy/Hegel_and_Marx.html

Here are some visuals that we might find to be helpful. I'll activate them when it is time:

Here is Goya's painting, oringally a sketch, "Time, Truth, and History." Fernandez-Armesto refers to this piece in the beginning of his book, Truth.

goya: Francisco Goya y Lucientes, Sketch, <i>Time, Truth, and History</i>, c. 1797-1799

This is one interpretation of Plato's Allegory of the Cave:

PlatoCave: Plato's "Allegory of the Cave." (Art by Spanish Renaissance artists, 1604).

This image is cool and interesting...if you can read French. It would be messy for me to try to translate the whole thing here for you. Some words are similar enough to English, and then I'll help you with: "dieu" means "God," "donc" means "therefore," "appartient" means "belongs" and "Je Pense" means "I think"-- now, with your general knowledge of Descartes, you should have enough to have a general sense of what the flow chart is trying to say.
