Diplomatic History Links

Professor Vincent Ferraro maitains this site on Diplomatic History at Mount Holyoke. It is the first place I go on the net when I am looking for information about a topic in US Diplomatic History. It has documents, links, and many other useful things. It is now so large that Professor Ferraro has a search engine for the site.

U.S. Diplomatic History Resources Index is an index of resources available on the Web on diplomatic history. It is a pretty big index, so it might seem a bit unwieldy at first, but is has a lot of links that can be quite useful.

Foreign Relations Series The Department of State is slowly but surely uploading the entire of contents of the Foreign Relations Series. There is one volume here from the Truman Adminstration; most volumes are from the Johnson and Kennedy adminstrations. This is the place to go for primary sources on the US government and Vietnam. The University of Wisconsin is slowly putting earlier volumes of the FRUS Series online here: UW Foreign Relations. It is a hit or miss proposition, becuase they are doing this selectively, but they do make it easy to search for your topic.

National Security Archive This is the destination of scholars who research American foreign policy during the Cold War. You want documents, go here. Topics include all of the important foreign policy events of the Cold War: Bay of Pigs, Missle Crisis, Vietnam, Guatemala, Berlin, Chile....

Cold War International History Project On the web, this might be the next best thing to the print version of the archives of the Soviet Union, China, Korea, and Cuba, at least with respect to certain events. Get the US side of the Berlin Crisis at the National Security Archive the go to the Cold War International History Project to view Russian documents. You can also print out all of the publications of the Cold War International History Project (including 31 Working Papers) for free.

American Diplomacy is an online journal of analysis, commentary, and research on American Foreign Relations, in both historical and comtemporary contexts. It is currently in its fifth volume; the previous volumes are archived on the site. A very good place to look for an academic article on a foreign policy topic.

H-Diplo is the homepage for an academic discussion list about displomatic history. It has a good links pages, and also some other useful information about the practice of diplomatic history and the diplomatic history community.
